Summer Travel Skincare Tips That Actually Work

When it comes to travel, things are still a little up in the air this year but many are still finding ways to hit the road and explore safely. But no matter where you are headed, keeping your skin healthy should be at the top of your travel list. Here’s a few summer travel skincare tips that actually work.

1. Don’t change your skincare line.

One of the worst things you can do to your skin while traveling is switch up your skincare products for what you find in travel sizes in the store. Our recommendation—don’t do it. Instead, either look for a skincare line that also offers travel sizes in your regular products, or purchase travel sized containers and fill them with your normal products. This step will go a long way in keeping your skin healthy and glowing while traveling. You should also consider what the weather is like where you’re going—especially if it’s extreme. A good professional tip? Cleanse for your skin type, but treat your skin based on condition. For example if it’s hot and sunny, use an oil-free sunscreen, or if it’s dry and cold, switch to a nourishing moisturizer (all within your same skincare line).

2. Fly smart.

From stress (think breakouts) to dry skin, and fluid retention, flying can be one of the quickest ways to cause imbalance in your skin. Then throw in mask requirements and suddenly your skin is a hot mess. Make things better by keeping your skin clean (maybe ditch the makeup), and wearing a hydrating mask or oil absorbing serum under your face mask while flying. Just think of it as an inflight mini-facial. No one can see your face anyway, and your skin will thank you for it when you arrive.

3. Exfoliation is key.

Avoid dryness, dull skin, and breakouts by gently exfoliating once or twice a week. Try a peel that includes glycolic acid gel that is perfectly balanced with alpha hydroxy acid. Together, they refine the skin’s surface and promote cell turnover while reducing the look of fine lines, wrinkles and pores.

4. Hydrate, protect and sleep.

Finally, don’t forget to drink enough water, protect your skin throughout the day (rain or shine) with sunscreen, and be sure to get your beauty sleep (after applying your nighttime skincare routine). Detoxification is the best way to clean the skin and keep it naturally beautiful, and water is the best detoxifier. A daily sunscreen with an SPF of 30 will guard the skin against harmful UV rays and premature aging. And of course, sleep is where the skincare magic happens, so getting enough is important to healthy skin whether at home on or on the road.
