Body Care: New Year, New You, New Skin

If you are following the latest beauty and skin care trends for 2022 then you know body care has never been bigger. Gone are the days where you use any simple soap to lather up. It’s time to think about vitamin rich ingredients, exfoliation, serums and rich moisturizers when it comes to caring for your skin from head to toe. But is it really necessary? We say, shift your thinking in 2022 and look at skincare as a full body focus where your goal is to protect every inch of your skin. Here’s how you start the new year with a full reset of your body care routine for the better.

Step 1: Cleanse + Exfoliate

Exfoliation, in moderation, is key to your skin looking healthy. Just like you face, your body needs to slough away all those dead skin cells. Doing so can help improve your skin texture and tone while also stimulating blood flow, and even help improve the appearance of cellulite. And if you wax, regularly exfoliating will help prevent ingrown hairs. Simplify this step by using a body wash with exfoliating gloves. Do this a few times a week and your skin will look soft and smooth in no time.

Step 2: Apply a Body Serum

Serums are not just for the face. A hydrating body serum formulated with ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, eucalyptus and hydrolyzed protein, will not only hydrate, but help give skin a firmer and more tone appearance. For best results, apply after a bath or shower while the skin is still moist and follow with a lotion or cream to seal in the moisture. It can also be effective in helping prevent stretch marks.

Step 3: Seal it in

Moisturize daily with a product that uses botanicals to keep your skin looking smooth and healthy. Try an ultra-rich formula made with cold pressed plant extracts (think, chamomile, geranium, and thyme flower), emollients (e.g. plant-based oils), and humectants (e.g. glycerin). A well-rounded formula can boost skin healing, protect, and prevent dryness. For best results, make sure to use over clean, damp skin (and over the serum) after a bath or shower.

Step 4: Protect Below the Neck

Just like your face, the skin on your neck, chest, arms, hands, and back (everywhere really) can quickly show signs of aging thanks to sun damage. Always finish your body care routine by applying sunscreen protection on any exposed areas. Don’t forget the back of your neck and your ears if your hair is short. For day-to-day use choose a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30, and consider other forms of protection such as hats, long sleeves and sunglasses. UPF clothing is also a good option.
